Alan ChapmanPartnerAfter graduating from Liverpool University and attending the Law Finals Course in Chester, Alan undertook his articles in Carlisle. He was admitted as a solicitor, and joined Burnetts, in 1981, becoming a partner in January 1985.Alan specialises in commercial property matters with particular emphasis upon development sites, and also licensed premises. For many years Alan has been acting on behalf of a major local developer, and also for several of our smaller developers. The complex issues of site acquisition and development include matters affecting title and boundaries, rights and covenants, infrastructure agreements, clawback provisions, and both Options and Conditional Contracts with the acquisitions often subject to obtaining Satisfactory Planning Permission. Alan has also been involved in advising public sector clients on major rebuilding projects. This involvement includes not only the funding, but also advice on the various professional appointments. Alan’s other major area of work is that in relation to licensed premises. He regularly acts on sales and purchases of hotels, pubs, restaurants or nightclubs within the Carlisle area, and also well-known properties within the Lake District and elsewhere in Cumbria. It is through this involvement with the licensed premises that Alan has developed his licensing skills. |
