Building confidence in debt recoveryA Cumbria solicitors is aiming to boost business optimism with a free seminar on Debt Recovery after the Credit Management Research Centre (CMRC) at Leeds University Business School reported widespread pessimism about being paid on time. Burnetts in Carlisle is hosting the free Debt Recovery Seminar in the library of their Victoria Place offices on 11th October from 5.30pm – 6.45pm. During the session, Burnetts’ debt recovery experts will be explaining how to minimise the risk of non-payment, collect interest from late payers and enforce court judgments. Kevin Holliday runs Burnetts’ Debt Recovery unit. He said, “Although businesses can legitimately add interest to overdue invoices, many do not. Some worry about upsetting an important customer, but many are unsure how to apply the powers. Where business owners are forced to take even more drastic action and successfully get a court judgment, many are uncertain how to enforce it. This session aims to help businesses to understand these processes as well as talking about the pre-emptive measures which can be taken to avoid bad debtors in the first place.” According to the CMRC, businesses are now being paid an average 17 days late and companies are generally less confident about being paid on time with pessimism highest amongst the smallest businesses and those in the manufacturing sector. Burnetts’ Debt Recovery seminar is free, but pre-booking is essential.
