Burnetts Top Ranked in National Guide

A Carlisle law firm is Cumbria’s most recommended practice according to the latest edition of a prestigious guide to legal advisers.

Burnetts is commended in more practice areas than any other Cumbrian firm in the 2009 edition of The Legal 500, a well–respected annual guide to UK law firms. Burnetts is also the only firm in the County to be recommended for its expertise in planning, construction, public sector, clinical negligence and family law.

In total, Burnetts is recommended in 11 different fields of law including corporate, commercial property, dispute resolution, employment, clinical negligence, personal injury, agriculture and estates, family, public sector, planning and construction. The firm’s specialism in education law helped to boost its rankings. 

Several of the firm’s commercial partners received personal commendations. Senior Partner, John Morris was recognised for his public sector expertise with corporate partners John Noctor and Vaughan Jones also being recommended. John Priddle and Tony Lake were endorsed for their land and property expertise.

Within the private client division, Nick Gutteridge was commended for his personal injury advice and Doug Claxton was a “name to note” in family law, particularly for his work “advising on high-value farming divorces”. Patricia Hall was praised for her specialism in professional negligence claims. Clinical negligence experts Vicki Jagger and Victoria Watson were also recognised.
