Cumbria Solicitor Comes Home

A specialist solicitor from South Lakes this month returns to work in the county.

Ruth Keenleyside, who lives near Kendal, has spent the last six years commuting to West Yorkshire where she worked as a medical law solicitor. This month, Ruth returns to Cumbria to join the medical law department of Carlisle's Burnetts Solicitors.

Despite her cross-county commute, Ruth has continued to represent clients from the North West - more than half of her caseload is from Cumbria and North Lancashire.

Ruth has more than a decade's experience working in clinical negligence. She previously worked for Forresters in Barrow in Furness, before moving to Clarksons in Halifax. She comes to Burnetts from Huddersfield's Chadwick Lawrence. As testament to her considerable expertise, Ruth is one of only three lawyers in Cumbria who have been accredited by the charity Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA).

She said, "Many of my clients have gone into hospital thinking they were going to be helped. Instead, they have suffered a medical accident some of which cause significant additional problems. It's my job to stand up for them and get to the bottom of what has happened. Burnetts is the only firm in Cumbria with a substantial medical law department which has a very good reputation - I am delighted to be part of the growing team."

Ruth will spend two days each week at Burnetts' Carlisle office. The remainder of the week will be spent in South Cumbria within easy reach of her existing clients as well as being accessible to new clients.

Notes to Editor:

Burnetts is a leading law firm based in Carlisle, with 17 partners and more than 120 staff. Burnetts provide legal services to a broad range of clients across the north of England and southern Scotland.

In March 2006, the Medical Law Department relocated to new offices beside Exit 43 of the M6 in order to make more room for new specialist lawyers.

Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is an independent charity which promotes better patient safety and justice for people who have been affected by a medical accident.
