Jobs Success for Cumbrian TrioThree Cumbrian solicitors have been recognised in the New Year promotions at Carlisle law firm Burnetts. Clinical negligence specialist Victoria Watson has been made a Partner while Wigton men Sam Lyon and Richard Miller have been promoted to Associate solicitors. Carlisle’s Victoria Watson (38) trained locally. She works exclusively in medical law, representing those with complaints or claims against medical practitioners. She has a special interest in cases involving orthopaedics, gynaecological treatment and cancer. Her promotion recognises the increasing complexity and volume of those cases. Victoria said “Being a Partner is huge responsibility, but I do feel that it is a recognition of my commitment and dedication. I’m very lucky to work in a firm which has allowed me to specialise in a field I really enjoy.” Richard Miller (24), an active member of Carlisle Young Farmers, has also been named Head of Burnetts’ Agricultural department. He first came to Burnetts as a work experience student and completed his solicitor training with the firm. Since joining the agriculture team, Richard has helped the department to grow by almost one third. Commercial specialist Sam Lyon (26) also trained with Burnetts and qualified in 2006. Having assisted on some of Burnetts’ big financial deals last summer, Sam had impressed clients and Partners with his performance and potential in a very competitive environment. Managing Partner Tom Leach said, “Burnetts now has more partners than ever which is a real indication of our strength and growth. Like many other companies in Cumbria we have to cope with a “brain drain” as bright, successful professionals move to big cities. In this case, our policy of actively recruiting, developing and rewarding good people from our local area has paid off.” 14th January, 2008 End |
