Local High-Flyers Boost Law Firm Growth

Two newly qualified solicitors join Burnetts in Carlisle this month following the completion of two years' training.

Kenny Ling and Diane Barnes qualify in September 2009. Both are local to Carlisle and joined Burnetts in September 2007 as trainee solicitors. Kenny will join the firm’s construction and engineering team while Diane joins agriculture.

Diane went to Lochinvar and William Howard Schools before reading Law at Durham University. She completed her Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University where she was a prize-winning student. During her training she has worked in Burnetts agricultural, conveyancing and debt recovery departments. From a Cumbrian farming family, Diane will now specialise in agricultural land and property sales.

She said, “Burnetts has a good reputation in Carlisle and as there are plenty of solicitors here with national recognition, I felt it was the best place for me to train. I’ve really enjoyed my training in different areas, but now I’m looking forward to specialising in agriculture.  I grew up on a local farm so agriculture has always been a major part of my life.”

A Geography graduate from Liverpool University, Kenny travelled extensively through Australia and the Far East before returning to his home town of Carlisle. During his training, the former Austin Friars student has focused on commercial law and has spent time working in the corporate, construction and commercial property departments.

Kenny said, “There are lots of opportunities for me with Burnetts in Cumbria, particularly on the west coast. The firm is growing and I’m looking forward to playing an active part in the expansion of the construction and engineering law team in particular.”

Diane is currently Treasurer of the Cumbria Junior Lawyers Division and has recently become a governor of Lees Hill CE Primary School.

Kenny is an active member of BNI (Business Networking International) in Carlisle. Outside of work, he is Chair of Carlisle Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Last month Burnetts announced the recruitment of commercial property solicitor, Katie Moreton. A few weeks previously the firm opened an office in Newcastle.
