Managing Employment Law in a Downturn

As more companies impose cash-saving measures such as short-time working, cutting employee benefits or relocation, a Cumbria law firm is hosting a training day for the line managers at the sharp end who have to implement potentially unpopular policies.

Employment Law for Line Managers takes place in Cockermouth on 11th March 2009 and is presented by employment law solicitors Joanne Stronach and Hazel Phillips from Burnetts in Carlisle.

The full day session also aims to help line managers and supervisors to properly handle common problems like worker under-performance, managing personality clashes, petty complaints and implementing changes to terms and conditions.

Joanne, who is a Partner at Burnetts, said, “Line managers are working with employment law issues every single day, but many feel they don’t have the knowledge and skills to deal with difficult, but common employment issues before they get out of hand. At a time of uncertainty about job security, the workplace can be more volatile than ever, but a confident, well-trained manager can stop a minor issue spiralling out of control and becoming a big, expensive employment law problem.”

Employment Law for Line Managers takes place from 9.30am – 4.30pm on 11th March 2009 at Dovenby Hall, Dovenby, Nr Cockermouth and costs £95 plus VAT per delegate. A buffet lunch is included.
