Midnight Memories of ShirleyNearly 20 women from Burnetts Solicitors in Carlisle Cumbria will be joining Eden Valley Hospice’s Midnight Walk on Friday June 22nd in memory of their colleague Shirley Green who died of cancer, aged 45, on 4th May 2007.Secretaries, legal executives, legal assistants, solicitors and managers will be joined by Shirley’s best friend Paula Cowan. The women hope to raise more than £1,000 for Eden Valley Hospice on the 10km moonlit walk. The Burnetts team has been organised by secretary Sandra Telford, a dedicated fundraiser who last September helped raise over £600 for Macmillan through their “World's Biggest Coffee Morning” event. She also organises a regular Christmas fundraiser for the Hospice’s Jigsaw Appeal. Sandra said, “I found out about the walk from the Hospice’s website. I was trying to find their address because Shirley was there and I wanted to send her a card. I thought the walk was such a good idea and I knew people here would enjoy it. We were all signed up and then Shirley died. It’s become a much more special event now.” Shirley who lived in Great Corby was Burnetts’ librarian. Although she worked at Burnetts for less than two years, she had made many good friends. Previously, she had worked for St Martin’s College where she met her friend, Paula. Poignantly, this event takes place six years to the day that Shirley & Paula first struck up their friendship. Eden Valley Hospice cares for people in North Cumbria who are facing the challenge of living with a life-limiting or terminal illness.
