New Head of Agriculture at Cumbrian Legal FirmBurnetts in Carlisle has appointed a new Head of Agricultural Law. Cumbrian Richard Miller, originally from Wigton, is to head the well-established department at the Carlisle law firm. Since he joined the team last year, he has helped the department to grow by almost one third. Richard (24) was the first to join Burnetts’ student placement scheme back in 2000. He continued to visit the firm throughout his studies at University of Newcastle and later joined Burnetts as a trainee solicitor. From a farming family himself and an active member of Carlisle Young Farmers, Richard especially enjoyed agricultural law even as a trainee. He said, “The work is very interesting, but it’s the people from the agricultural industry that I get to deal with on a day to day basis that I enjoy most . Agriculture is a vital industry undergoing dramatic changes and Cumbria is at the heart of England’s rural economy. Cumbria has a strong community of farmers, rural businesses and agricultural advisers and I’m honoured to be a part of that network.” Burnetts’ Managing Partner Tom Leach said, “Burnetts was built up on the back of its strong agricultural practise. As head of department, Richard will be go-ahead and keep Burnetts at the forefront of the agricultural community whilst providing relevant and practical legal advice. “ 18th January, 2008 End |
