Richard Bain
Partner
Richard Bain is Burnetts’ longest serving partner: he joined the firm in 1970 and is head of the Personal Injury Department.
An imposing litigator, Richard has advised on insurance-related issues throughout his career. Whilst training he investigated accidents on trawlers fishing in the North Sea and off Iceland. Since then, he has acted for nearly all the major insurance companies.
From 2001 Richard has focussed exclusively on personal injury claimant work, acting for clients nationally in securing compensation for injury, illness or fatality. He is the only solicitor in Cumbria to be on the panel of solicitors recommended by the Spinal Injuries Association.
He specialises in accidents at work, particularly catastrophic or fatal industrial accidents. He has represented accidentally injured construction, railway, ship and factory workers. His work for Alston Moor barytes’ miners who sustained lung diseases was pioneering.
Richard is a member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s Personal Injury Accreditation Scheme and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
