Education Law for Universities
Higher Education
The extensive HE experience of the education law team includes advising Universities throughout North West & North East England
In the current edition of Chambers and Partners, Burnetts is one of a handful of regional names to be recognised as a national player in the Education: Institutions (Higher & Further Education) section. Meanwhile, Partner Vaughan Jones has been recommended in the Legal 500 for being “particularly strong in the education sector”.
Burnetts has been working with Universities for decades so our understanding of the management of the HE sector is well established. We are the main advisers to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) for whom we have advised on literally thousands of issues. We have also acted for the University of Cumbria and its predecessor institutions (Cumbria Institute of the Arts and St Martin’s College). We have a thorough knowledge of the Further Education and Higher Education Act 1992, the Learning & Skills Act 2000 and the other legislation and regulatory requirements affecting the sector.
We recognise, in particular, the difficulties of managing funding streams from different sources with different requirements and the pressures which the government’s current budget cuts are placing on Universities.
