One of the region’s leading corporate lawyers, John Noctor specialises in company and commercial work for major clients in both the private and public sector.
Originally from Cumbria’s west coast, John graduated from the University of Cambridge. He was articled to the firm now known as Hill Dickinson in Liverpool before joining Burnetts in 1986 and becoming a partner in 1988.
John is now the Head of Business Services at Burnetts, and was described in the most recent edition of the Legal 500 as “an expert who can very quickly assess a situation, and provide clear advice on very complex transactions”.
Acting mainly for owner managed companies, John has recently completed a £35million MBO in the transport sector, and advised on a £60million joint venture in the nuclear sector, as well as the reorganisation of a large group of companies in the motor industry.
In the public sector, John lead a team of eight lawyers in advising Askham Bryan College in York on its acquisition of the Newton Rigg Campus from the University of Cumbria. John also leads the Academy Team, which has helped many Schools in Cumbria convert to Academy Status, as well as advising West Lakes Academy and others on the construction of new multi million pound facilities.
Outside work, John is a qualified rugby union coach, helping out with junior rugby.
