Roger O’Brien
Profile
Commercial Property solicitor Roger O’Brien joined Burnetts in 2013. Originally from Yorkshire, Roger qualified as a solicitor in 1990, having completed his training in the City of London.
Roger’s public sector experience includes advising on numerous land and property sales and transfers such as assisting on:
• the disposal of 12 waste disposal sites for a county council as part of an out-sourcing project;
• the sale of a council-owned college; and
• a multi-million property disposal programme for a local authority.
He has also drafted and amended commercial leases for public sector clients, both as landlord and tenant. However, in his most recent role at Carlisle City Council, the majority of his time was spent working on planning agreements, in particular Section 106 Agreements.
In the private sector, Roger has worked on two supermarket developments: in one case his role involved negotiating a complex set of documents including drafting the agreement for the lease, the lease itself, an option back for a right of way and the deed of easement. He has also acted for banks on the re-financing of private sector and voluntary organisations and carried out due diligence work on behalf of Clydesdale Bank plc for whom Burnetts is a panel solicitor.
When he is not advising clients on the sale and acquisition of commercial land and property, Roger flies light aircraft.
