Richard Miller

Profile

Richard Miller read Law at the University of Newcastle before joining Burnetts in 2005. He was promoted to Associate in 2008 and became a Partner in 2011.

A native Cumbrian and former secretary and chairman of Carlisle Young Farmers, Richard’s enthusiasm for the countryside pre-dates his interest in law.

Richard is Head of Burnetts’ Agribusiness department, advising farmers and agricultural-based businesses on issues such as the sale and purchase of farms or commercial property, agricultural tenancies, farm partnership matters, wayleave agreements and Single Farm Payment work.

Richard has acted on numerous high profile acquisitions and sales of farms via public auctions and private treaty deals and advised a considerable number of clients on significant wind farm projects throughout the North of England.

Richard has extensive experience in advising lenders securing high yield facilities in support of ongoing and expanding farming operations and is on the panel of three leading banks. Most notably, Richard led the legal team on the financing structured in support of one of the first anaerobic digester plants in Cumbria.

In Chambers 2010 and 2011, Richard was recognised  as a leader in his field and described as a “real champion”.

He is a member of the Agriculture Law Association, Cumberland Agricultural Society and Penrith and the Border Agribusiness Club.
