TUPE master-class to smooth business transfersCarlisle employment law expert, John Morris will be hosting a master-class next month to help Cumbria bosses get to grips with new legislation affecting the sale of businesses and transfers of service provision (like a contracted cleaning service). The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) came into force in April 2006. John, Senior Partner at Burnetts Solicitors, was on the Law Society's influential Employment Law Committee which advised the Government on the new legislation. The TUPE 2006 Master-Class will be held in Burnetts' Library, 4pm – 6pm on Thursday 6th July and costs a nominal £30 plus VAT per delegate. The master-class is aimed at all managers and directors, especially those who already have, or are about to have, some experience of a TUPE transaction. As well as a presentation on the new law and its implications, there will also be a practical workshop session. Places on the seminar can be booked through Jane Sacree on 01228 552222. Where a transferor fails to comply with this new duty, they could end up paying the transferee compensation of at least £500 per employee in respect of whom the duty to inform arose. It is essential that any information prepared for a transferee is accurate, up to date and full. 5th June 2006 |
