FREE – Landlord Roadshow Cumbria

Lettings guru and TV personality Paul Shamplina will be hosting a Landlord Roadshow on 17th July at The Old Fire Station, Peter St, Carlisle, CA3 8QP. The event will start at 5.30pm, refreshments served at 7pm, with the event formally finishing at 8.30pm. Paul will be supported by key note speakers from our Commercial Property and Residential Property teams along with Northwood Estate & Letting Agents, David Allen Chartered Accountants and Auction House Cumbria.

With the Renters Rights Bill nearing its passing through the House of Lords and expected to come into force in October 2025, it’s vital that all landlords understand their legal responsibilities and obligations. This will be discussed by the experts along with tax, mortgages, legal aspects and investments.

The event is free to any current or aspiring landlord, both self managing and those who have their rental property or properties managed by any Carlisle letting agent.

Key Note Speakers:

Paul Shamplina, the Founder of Landlord Action, has spent over 25 years in the legal field helping landlords and letting agents with problem tenants. Often referred to as ‘The Landlords’ Friend’, Paul is regularly asked to comment in the media and he isn’t afraid to give his point of view. He has appeared in numerous programmes on BBC One, ITV, Channel 4, and is a regular on Channel 5’s hit series ‘Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords’.

Ben Crystal from our Commercial Property team along with Codie Slessor from our Residential Property team  will arm you with everything you need to know to avoid the most common landlord pitfalls and ensure you have every box ticked in terms of legislation requirements. They will cover top tips on tenancy agreements, consents, EPCs, insurance, no fault evictions and the Renters’ Rights Bill in general, from both a residential and a commercial point of view.

Kerry Doree, Managing Director at Northwood Estate & Letting Agents, will focus her presentation on what managing agents should be offering landlords to ensure they are compliant with the Renters Rights Bill.

Lucy Metcalf, Tax Partner at David Allen Chartered Accountants, will be speaking about the upcoming introduction of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which may require landlords to keep appropriate digital records and report their rental income and expenses to HM Revenue and Customs quarterly from 6th April 2026 onwards.

Colin West, Director at The Auction House Cumbria, will be speaking about the main differences between selling by auction and selling by private treaty. He will cover the benefits of landlords buying and/or selling by auction including the pitfalls, do’s and don’ts.
