Corporate Social Responsibility
Burnetts is the largest legal firm in Cumbria and takes its responsibility to its local community seriously.
Through volunteering, pro bono advice and fundraising Burnetts is determined to share its knowledge and resources with its local and regional community.
Charitable Giving / Fundraising
The firm has had a Charity of the Year since 2016 when the Lake District Calvert Trust was chosen by Burnetts’ staff and partners as our first good cause. Our 2019 Charity of the Year is Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice.
In 2016, the firm raised over £10,000 for the Lake District Calvert Trust Trust, helping to kick-start the renovation of a bothy at the charity’s Lake District activity centre. In 2017 Burnetts supported the Great North Air Ambulance Service raising over £12,000 to support this life-saving charity.
Burnetts has been a corporate member of the Cumbria Community Foundation since 1999. By making an annual donation, Burnetts has helped to improve quality of life for people experiencing disadvantage in Cumbria. For the last few years, Burnetts has made an additional donation to become one of the Foundation’s Challenge members.
The firm is also a Business Partner of the charity Hospice at Home and each year provides our will writing services free to Hospice at Home supporters in return for donations to the charity. To read the latest news about our charitable activities, visit our community news pages.
Burnetts provides pro bono advice to charities, individuals and growing businesses.
Our support currently includes: monthly surgeries for individuals throughout Cumbria on topics such as family issues, planning and wills; ad hoc legal advice to charities; and participation in “Wills Month” promotions being run Eden Valley Hospice, Hospice at Home and West Cumbria Carers. For four months Burnetts provided free, unlimited legal support to Cumbrian families affected by Storm Desmond;
Sharing expertise is an important element of our social responsibility. Organisations such as Eden Mencap, the Glenmore Trust and the Henry Lonsdale Trust have found our free legal briefings worthwhile and useful.
Everyone at Burnetts is encouraged and supported with their voluntary work.
Local schools, colleges, sports clubs and charities such as Headway or Cumberland Agricultural Society Council are amongst the organisations where Burnetts’ people are governors, trustees, committee members or volunteers.
