A “first class” team effort on the sale of Carlisle United Football Club
We’re proud to say that we advised on the recent sale of Carlisle United Football Club to Castle Sports Group, owned by the Piatak family – a team effort that Andrew Jenkins, Honorary Chairman of Carlisle United Football Club, described as “first class”.
Our Head of Corporate Michael Walby and Head of Property Robbie Mather led on the transaction, supported by specialist lawyers from our Corporate, Commercial Property, Banking and Employment teams.
Andrew Jenkins said:
“Michael and the team at Burnetts have been first-class in supporting us throughout the sale process. They have been completely dedicated, and we and the club are grateful for their advice and support. The club and the shareholders have really valued their guidance and sound judgement, and I would recommend them to anyone in business.”
Commenting on the deal Michael Walby said:
“We are immensely proud and are privileged to have acted on the sale of Carlisle United Football Club, a club that means so much to so many people throughout Cumbria and beyond. Our team of lawyers (made up of several fans) are delighted to have assisted the sellers and the ever-impressive management team at Carlisle United to deliver this transaction. I said from the outset this was the right deal at the right time, and it was refreshing to see everyone on the buy and sell-side collaborate to get the transaction over the line.
“We wish the Piatak family every success with the club going forward, it is in everyone’s interests for Carlisle United to be successful, as it lifts the whole city. I am certain the Piataks will build on the huge impression they have already made, and will make a lasting impact on the club, the fans and the community.”
As part of the transaction, Carlisle United supporters trust (CUOSC) retains a 10% shareholding in C.U.F.C. Holdings Limited.
