Burnetts continues to be Cumbria’s most recommended law firm in the Legal 500’s latest guide to the profession, with great service being the most-cited reason for lawyers’ top rankings.
The prestigious legal sector guide warmly praises 11 different teams for their client care skills and legal expertise, 32 lawyers across the teams were recognised - more lawyer recommendations than any other Cumbria-based firm.
Four of the firm’s teams warrant the highest, Top Tier ranking: the Corporate and Commercial team is described as “highly motivated, hardworking and extremely professional”; the Commercial Litigation team is recognised for being “professional and helpful” and “having a strong, diverse group of people who are clearly interested in the outcomes that they achieve for clients” whilst the Education team are “highly skilled professionals who know the sector well”. Burnetts are also recognised for its expertise in advising on employment, clinical negligence, personal injury, agriculture, family, trusts and probate issues.
Burnetts are the only firm in Cumbria ranked for contentious trust and probate work, this follows our success in the high court case of Culliford v. Thorpe. “James Johnston is head of dispute resolution and his team includes associate Johnny Coulthard and consultant Patricia Hall, who have particular experience and expertise in high value cases, notably with a commercial element”.
Reaching the Legal 500 rankings for the first time in 2020 are: Contentious probate solicitor Johnny Coulthard, Wills, Trusts and Probate Associate Timothy Boardman; Senior Associate Spencer Knaggs , Partner in Corporate law Caroline Redhead, Corporate Associate Solicitor Melissa McManus, Clinical Injury Associate Solicitor Michelle Armstrong, Personal Injury Associate Paul Brown, Associate Abigail Clucas, Partner in Employment Law and Associate Anna Lovett.
Nick Gutteridge, Burnetts’ Managing Partner, said “Burnetts strives to ensure they fulfil their four core values; accessible, committed, expert and grounded. The testimonials our clients have provided prove that our lawyers go the extra mile for all of our clients. We’re extremely grateful to those who took part in the Legal 500 research and shared their positive experiences of Burnetts.”
Law firms are included in the Legal 500 on merit alone. The rankings are the culmination of many months of research and interviews with law firms and, most importantly, their clients.
