Look Ahead in the North 2025

Look Ahead in the North 2025

Look Ahead in the North 2025 was a huge success!

We were proud to support the Look Ahead in the North event for members of Headway charities and volunteer-led branches in the North East and Cumbria once again this year.

110 brain injury survivors, family members, carers and volunteers enjoyed a fun filled weekend at the Calvert Trust in Kielder in March, where they were able to take part in outdoor activities, arts and crafts, dance and African drumming workshops, meet birds of prey, or relax with a treatment from a volunteer therapist. During the evenings, they took part in social activities with a quiz, live music, competitions and karaoke.

Just under half of people who attended the weekend had not been on another holiday in the past year. It was a great opportunity for them to meet with old and new friends in a welcoming, inclusive environment. One attendee said “I will take with me the knowledge life goes on after brain injury” and one couple who came along, one of whom is a brain injury survivor, said “It has given us confidence to go on holiday together”.

Marie Peacock, Head of Network – Headway UK, said:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Burnetts for their sponsorship of the Look Ahead in the North weekend this year. It is a very special event that brings together brain injury survivors and their families for a weekend of fully accessible outdoor activities and social activities which help to build confidence and friendships.

“LAN is the highlight of the year for many Headway members in the North East and Cumbria and for around half of delegates it will be their only holiday this year. The weekend brings together a community of brain injury survivors and their carers, to have fun, try new activities and experiences and to feel positive and excited for the future. We are so grateful to Burnetts for their vital support.”

Headway is a UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services. You can find out more about it and the support it offers here.
