Our recent promotions – Maria Wright

Maria Wright, Agribusiness and Banking Partner

Our recent promotions – Maria Wright

Introducing Maria Wright, who was recently promoted to Partner at Burnetts. Maria has been with us for three years now and works within both our Banking and Property Finance and Agribusiness teams.

What does your role actually involve?

Within the Banking team, I undertake property finance work. This means I review property titles for the bank and put in place the relevant security required by the bank. Within the Agribusiness team, I carry out agricultural sales and purchases and draft partnership agreements for clients.

A quick breakdown of your day to day:

I work mostly in the office, where I start by checking and replying to emails. I then have a list of tasks that I want to achieve that day; I systematically work my way through them. This routine is interspersed with supporting the junior members of the team and dealing with calls and emails that come in throughout the day.

What do you like best about your job?

The variety! Working in several areas, including banking, commercial property and agribusiness, means that I am confronted daily by challenges that are interesting and fulfilling. I enjoy the opportunity to offer solutions to clients and to help them achieve their outcomes.

What do you find challenging?

Juggling the different elements of my job is not always easy, especially as the work is often fast-paced. This means that we come under pressure to meet deadlines and to ensure that we provide the best service to clients.

How did you find your way to this career?

I started off in a rural practice, eventually taking over and running the firm for nearly ten years.

Your hope for the future career-wise?

I want to continue to develop my skills and to help to facilitate Burnetts’ continued success.

A little known fact about you?

I hold dual nationality, British and Irish, which means I can live anywhere in the EU. Plus, as my husband is from New Zealand, I have the right to live in New Zealand or Australia. This gives me plenty of options on retirement!
