Our work on Net Zero Seventeen’s planned battery energy storage facility…
We recently acted on behalf of one of our agricultural clients in connection to a proposal to build a new battery energy storage facility on agricultural land at West Farm, near Aspatria in Cumbria. The developer (Net Zero Seventeen) secured an Option Agreement for the project over part of our clients’ farm and planning permission for the facility has now been granted by Cumberland Council.
Net Zero Seventeen applied to Cumberland Council for consent to construct the new facility, which will store electricity from the power grid (or from a renewable energy source) and then release it back into the grid during peak times of usage.
A spokesman for Net Zero Seventeen said the development was “much needed” and would help to meet the need to increase energy security.
The development will include battery storage containers, control rooms, a road for site access and landscaping.
Our Agribusiness Partner and Chairperson Richard Miller, and Commercial Property Partner Rebecca Dawson, worked to secure this deal, working alongside our client’s land agent, John Wilson of Whittaker & Biggs.
Richard said:
“Projects like this are necessary both as a means of securing the financial viability of working family farms in the post subsidy era and playing a vital role in our energy infrastructure, as the demand for electricity increases.”
