The NR Times Awards 2025 – Charity of the Year

The NR Times Awards 2025 - Charity of the Year

We’re very proud to have sponsored the NR Times Award for Charity of the Year this year.

This prestigious award ceremony took place yesterday and celebrated the dedication, innovation, and leadership of professionals and organisations committed to improving the lives of individuals affected by neurological conditions.

The awards highlight outstanding contributions at every stage of the neuro-rehabilitation journey from groundbreaking research and early diagnosis, to specialist interventions, rehabilitation strategies, and long-term support.

Our Brain Injury Partner Paul Brown commented:

“As a chair of a local Headway Group myself and former secretary of the national charity UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum I know first hand the hard work and dedication of the many trustees and volunteers that work behind the scenes across the charity sector. I would like to pay tribute to these unsung heroes whom bring so much to so many people affected by neurological conditions. We had four fantastic charities shortlisted for the NR Times Charity of the Year Award this year and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision for the panel.”

The charities were as follows:

1) Cauda Equina Champions Charity is a pioneering, patient-led charity and it has had an outstanding impact on the neurorehabilitation community. As the UK’s only dedicated charity for people living with Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), it has delivered innovative, high-quality services on a modest budget, reaching thousands worldwide and transforming the face of CES support.

2) LEGS (Local Exercise Groups for Stroke and Neuro Conditions) provides accessible and subsidised neurological rehabilitation and a supportive community for people with neurological conditions. Since 2017, LEGS have worked with over 400 people to improve their rehabilitation and wellbeing, reduce their isolation and support their families and carers. When people with neurological conditions leave hospital, they often feel abandoned, isolated, depressed and anxious. Neurological rehabilitation waiting lists currently remain a postcode lottery and 44% are unable to get the support they need so this charity are again doing fantastic work to provide access to essential services.

3) Seashell who provide transformative work with children and young people who have complex learning, communication, and sensory needs. With a legacy spanning over 200 years, Seashell continues to innovate and lead in the field of specialist education and care, offering a lifeline to families across the UK. At the heart of Seashell’s mission is a commitment to creating inclusive environments where every young person can thrive. Through its outstanding school and college, residential care, and therapy services, Seashell provides tailored support that empowers individuals to reach their full potential.

4) Challenging MND is an inspirational, fast-moving charity transforming the lives of those living with motor neurone disease (MND), and the families and carers who support them. Founded by former GB decathlete Alex Gibson—diagnosed with MND at just 39—the charity is built on lived experience and an unshakable belief that life should be lived to the fullest, even in the face of terminal illness.

The winner of the NR Times Charity of the Year was Cauda Equina Champions Charity. Huge congratulations to Claire Thornber and the rest of the team.
