MacMillan Coffee Morning
Burnetts took part in the World’s Largest coffee morning on 29th September to raise funds for MacMillan and raised a fantastic £175.62 for the charity.
North East Charity Awards
Angela Curran was shortlisted in the “Outstanding Individual Contribution to Charity” category at the North East Charity Awards 2017, and went on to win at a fabulous dinner on 28th September. Congratulations Angela!
Great North Run 2017
Runners from Burnetts took part in the Great North Run on Sunday 22nd October 2017.
Pre-Great North Run
Milburn House hosted a pre-Great North Run event to get calories into our runners!!
Burnetts' runners and guests joined us at Milburn House for an enjoyable morning.
Challenge 500 - WE WON!
This year, Burnetts signed up to the Percy Hedley Foundation Challenge 500 initiative. We were given a £500 seed fund to help raise as much money as possible between February and July 2017 for the foundation.
We were delighted to have raised an amazing £21,275 in aid of the The Percy Hedley Foundation! Burnetts has a special connection with the Foundation: Newcastle-based Partner Angela Curran is one of the charity’s Trustees and Chair of Governors at both Percy Hedley School and Northern Counties School. As a result of Burnetts’ Challenge 500 achievement, Angela was presented with an “Outstanding Personality” award and appointed as an Ambassador for the 2018 challenge. Read more here.
It’s all over for 2017
After almost 6 months of intense fundraising, Challenge 500 ended on 20th July.
We didn’t take our stake money of £500 from Percy Hedley but generated our own initial funds by all contributing to our first coffee morning for Valentine’s Day in February raising over £500 to kick start our campaign.
As you can see from our posts this was followed by numerous of other themed coffee mornings (thanks to our neighbours in Milburn House for eating so much cake!!) including St Patrick’s day, Easter and National Cream Tea day to name but a few.
We had a quiz night, Skool Disco, fitness day (and multiple spin sessions), a Race Night and 5 aside football tournament. Natalie threw herself out of an aeroplane and Angela walked on broken glass. Thanks to Riverside Primary Academy for their movie night and non-uniform day and all of the businesses who entered our 5 a side football tournament.
It was great fun and we got to meet Supermac! Thank you MM.
WE RAISED A STAGGERING £21,250!!!
The competition winners will be announced at a breakfast meeting at The Marriott, Gosforth Park on Thursday 27 July.
The team organised a wimbledon sweepstake which generated a lot of interest from Burnetts staff and friends of the firm. Congratulations to the winner - Edmund Fitzpatrick; runner up - Sarah C and semi-finalists - Caroline Manningham & Helen Dawson.
Two-day Football Tournament
The team continued with its Challenge 500 efforts in June by hosting a two day football tournament, raising the total raised for the Percy Hedley Foundation even higher. The event was a huge success and enjoyed by all involved – including Newcastle United icon Malcolm McDonald, who made a special guest appearance and refereed some games. GE, Amec Foster Wheeler, Blyth Spartans, Acrol Air conditioning, Brighter Law all entered teams. The highest goal scorer of the competition was Richard of Amec Foster Wheeler.
Burnetts' Big Brainy Quiz
The team organised two events in May as part of the Challenge 500 initiative. The team held a Coffee Morning at the Milburn House office followed by Burnetts' Big Brainy Quiz on 11th May.
The team held a Race Night at Shearer's Bar in Newcastle in April. Clients and local businesses enjoyed an exciting evening, with the event raising a fantastic total in aid of the Percy Hedley Foundation.
At the end of the evening one of our guests, Ian Stalker doubled the amount of money we had raised which gave our campaign a huge boost. We were treated to a dancing display by the group Dancing For Charity, it was like our own Strictly!
The team organised a number of events throughout April as part of the Challenge 500 initiative, including a Skool Disco on 7th April at Holly Hill Social Club and an Easter-themed coffee morning on 13th April.
The Skool Disco was fancy dress, several people turned up as the school head teacher! The Easter coffee morning saw Milburn House full of bunny rabbits. Jess surpassed herself with an amazing Easter cake which sold out within minutes.
Our own Iron Woman, Caroline Robson hosted a Challenge 500 Fitness Day event on 2nd April at Cobalt Business Park. This involved spinning classes, Zumba and Metafit to name but a few. Jess made fabulous protein balls which sold like hot cakes (!)
The day raised a considerable sum and the team had a great day!
St Patricks Coffee Morning
The team held a St Patricks-themed coffee morning on Friday 17th March 2017 as part of the Challenge 500 initiative. The team was given a luxurious hamper by Percy Hedley to use as the main raffle prize, which helped in raising the fantastic coffee morning donation total.
The Newcastle office hosted a Valentine's day coffee morning on Tuesday 14th February, welcoming neighbouring businesses from Milburn House and passers-by. We filled the reception with heart shaped balloons and all of the sweet treats were valentine themed. Thanks to our neighbours Jump who came by the bus load and ate lots of cake!
Great Swims 2016 Summary
Caroline has now completed the whole series of Great Swims across the country in aid of Breast Cancer Now, including the Great North Swim, Suffolk Swim, Salford Quays and Victoria Docks swims. She has exceeded her £300 target for Breast Cancer Now, raising a total of £345 + gift aid.
Caroline recorded a fantastic time in the Loch Lomond swim, completing it 10 minutes faster than her time last year! She has already booked her place at the Great North Swim in 2017, raising money again for Breast Cancer Now.
Great North Run 2016
The team's months of training for the Great North Run came to a successful conclusion with all of our team members crossing the finish line! Angela Curran provided support at the marquee. To date the team has raised over £2500 for the Percy Hedley Foundation and their Just Giving page is still open. We are very grateful for your donations. More pictures can be found on Burnetts' Facebook and Twitter pages. Here is a link to a video of the day created by Percy Hedley.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
The Burnetts’ Newcastle Office had a very busy and successful week. The team hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 9th September 2016 which was a roaring success! In total, over £200 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Research. The team also met lots of neighbours from Milburn House and the surrounding offices.
This was followed on Saturday 10th September 2016 by hosting a drinks and nibbles reception for runners and their families who were raising money for the Percy Hedley Foundation.
Legal Executive Caroline Robson and Nursing Paralegal Stephanie Long both swam in the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere on June 11th 2016. The swim was 1 mile in length and the women both managed the swim in just over 1 hour. Well done!
Stephanie raised £816 for Breast Cancer Now.
Caroline, a specialist in the Court of Protection, is going to do the whole series of Great Swims across the country and has so far also completed the Suffolk Swim, Salford Quays and Victoria Docks swims. She has raised £310.00 to date.
On Saturday 6th August 2016 Stephanie and Caroline were joined by Medical Negligence Solicitor Hannah Fitzpatrick to complete the Total Warrior challenge in Shap. They were raising money “Breast Cancer Now” and “Help for Heroes”.
Great North Run 2016
Our Great North Run Team (Caroline, Hannah, Stephanie, James Curran, Administrator Natalie Gray, and solicitors Kayleigh Nugent, Mark Johnson and Alix Walker as team manager!!) continue to step up their training efforts in their bid to raise as much as they can for the Percy Hedley Foundation and the new Percy Hedley School Building at Killingworth.
On Saturday 5th August 2016, the team completed their latest run, a 10K run along the Derwent Walk (the day after the firm BBQ!). Getting the team up to 10K will be a challenge and everyone is breaking in their new trainers and eating lots of chicken and pasta, no alcohol from mid August. This is serious!
