Credit Reference Industry praised by Information Commissioner’s Office
Burnetts' information law Natalie Ruane discusses a report published by the Information Commissioner's Office concerning data protection in the credit reference industry.
A report published by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at the end of September has highlighted a good understanding of data protection in the credit reference industry. From May to August 2014, the ICO undertook reviews at the three main consumer credit reference agencies- Callcredit, Equifax and Experian.
The report highlights that the agencies had robust controls in place and understood the importance of data protection. It covered areas such as data sharing, staff training and policies and procedures. The ICO felt that in some instances, initiatives by the agencies went beyond compliance to demonstrate good practice.
