InfoLawUpdate - BBC being monitored over response times
Burnetts' information law solicitor Natalie Ruane discusses how the BBC are being monitored over response times.
The BBC is being monitored by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) over the timeliness of responses to freedom of information requests. The ICO received 84 complaints about the BBC; one in three related to the timeliness of the response. Many complaints stated that the BBC was not providing responses within the statutory limit of 20 days (or after 40 days, where the deadline had been extended).
The ICO will now monitor the timeliness of responses for freedom of information requests between 1 May and 31 July 2014. If there are no signs of improvement enforcement action will be taken.
