InfoLawUpdate - Solar Panels, Insulation and Boiler Nuisance Calls
Burnetts' information law solicitor Natalie Ruane discusses nuisance calls made by companies offering boilers, insulation and solar panels.
If you are anything like the writer, you will have been plagued recently by recorded messages from companies making offers to do with boilers, insulation and solar panels. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is asking for the public’s help after a spike in these types of nuisance calls. Some of the automated calls appear to be coming from 0161 or 0191 numbers. However, investigations show that these are likely to be false numbers. Anyone receiving calls is asked to report it to the ICO. These types of calls and text messages were responsible for 42% of concerns raised with the ICO between January 2014 and March 2014. This has coincided with a significant reduction in the number of concerns about messages relating to payment protection insurance.
