Updated Guidance on the Crime and Taxation Exemption
Natalie Ruane gives an update on guidance produced by the Information Commissioner's Office relating to the Data Protection Act - Crime and Taxation.
At the end of July the Information Commissioner’s Office launched an update of their guidance around one of the exemptions under the Data Protection Act – Crime and Taxation. This is one of the most commonly used exemptions under the Act.
Some of the guidance is aimed at organisations that process data for crime and taxation purposes like the Police and HMRC. However other parts are aimed at organisations that have been asked to provide data to the Police. The guidance should help these organisations make informed decisions about disclosure. The guidance also includes some useful examples to show how disclosures should be handled.
The guidance can be found here.
