A Cumbria law firm was the driving force behind the acquisition of a prestige motor dealership last month.

Burnetts’ Carlisle office advised Lloyd Motor Group in its purchase of Kelso-based Land Rover dealer Croall Bryson & Company Ltd.

Croall Bryson, which won the prestigious Land Rover Sales Dealer of the Year in 2009, is the longest serving Land Rover dealership in the United Kingdom.

Corporate Partner John Noctor and Associate Solicitor Sam Lyon advised Lloyds on the corporate and commercial issues. The property aspects of the cross-border deal were handled by Braidwoods in Dumfries. Accountants PwC advised Lloyds on taxation issues.

Sam said, “Two severe winters have led to an upsurge in demand for Land Rovers. This acquisition enables Lloyd Motor Group to exploit that demand and expand their geographic reach. We have supported Lloyds for over a decade and I’m delighted that we were there to support them with their latest expansion. The large number of shareholders in Croall Bryson led to some practical difficulties in reaching agreement on the sale, but, with a few late nights, we were able to meet Lloyds’ deadline for completion.”

Lloyd Motor Group is an approved dealer for Alfa Romeo, BMW, Fiat, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, MINI and Volvo with dealerships in Carlisle, Cockermouth, Blackpool , Newcastle and Colne, as well as Kelso.
