A good man to have on your side
Just a year after qualifying, a young solicitor is bringing his experience of working with a North East medical charity to his new role at Burnetts.
Johnny Coulthard has joined the Court of Protection and the Medical Negligence and Serious Injury teams at Burnetts after qualifying as a solicitor in September 2016 and he’s dividing his time between the firm’s Carlisle and Newcastle offices. While studying, Johnny volunteered with LegaCare, a charity that provides legal advice to people suffering from terminal or life limiting illnesses.
“I’ve dealt with people in the toughest of situations,” says Johnny, “and that voluntary experience confirmed my choice of legal specialism. I’m thrilled to join Burnetts as the firm is recognised as a leader in this field. I’ll be part of the two teams that work with clients who’ve suffered serious injuries and need a court-appointed deputy to represent and advise them. The work is all about making sure those clients have access to the therapies, support and financial resources that they need long term so it can be tough but it’s very satisfying work.”
Nick Gutteridge is Burnetts’ Managing Partner and an experienced Court of Protection practitioner: “It’s rare to find a young solicitor who has the highly developed people skills that this area of legal work needs,” he says. “Johnny’s commitment, determination and approachability is already greatly valued by his clients; he’s proving a tremendous asset to the team.”
A former student of Nelson Thomlinson School at Wigton, Johnny studied at Northumbria University Law School. During his studies, he also completed a placement at the City University of New York in the USA. He now lives in Caldbeck and enjoys playing football in his spare time – he has previously played for Carlisle United Centre of Excellence, Workington Reds, Carlisle City and the Cumberland FA.All News
