Breast cancer screening in Cumbria - latest update

Victoria Watson, a specialist clinical negligence solicitor in Burnetts' medical law team comments on the recent statement of the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust in relation to the recent breast cancer screening issues

Statement in response to North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust’s Breast screening incident update on 13th November 2013 (available from http://www.ncuh.nhs.uk/news/2012/november/breast-screening-incident-update.aspx)

Victoria Watson is a Partner in Burnetts’ medical law team and a specialist clinical negligence solicitor. Along with her colleague Lynne Hall, Victoria is advising 19 clients in relation to their concerns about their diagnosis of, or treatment for, breast cancer. Christine Hullock from Penrith is one of Victoria’s clients.

Victoria said, “It is unacceptable that the Trust took the decision to communicate this immensely private information by way of press release, before the ladies concerned had been informed. Nonetheless, I am pleased that they have now accepted full liability in three of the cases, but disappointed that they have decided to deny liability in 10 cases. However their stance will not stop us continuing with these cases where we have supportive expert evidence, and where our clients want to proceed.”

Victoria and her client Christine have been interviewed by both the BBC and ITV. Watch their interviews here:
