“First Class” Burnetts tops Cumbrian rankings

Burnetts is top of the County rankings in the latest issue of a prestigious legal guide.

Burnetts is top of the County rankings in the latest issue of a prestigious legal guide.

In the 2012 issue of the Legal 500, Burnetts has more top tier rankings than any other firm in Cumbria and is recognised for its expertise in 12 areas of law. In rankings which include national firms from across Northern England, Burnetts is the only practice in Cumbria to be ranked in the fields of Professional Negligence, Planning, Construction, Education and Clinical Negligence.

Every team in the firm’s business services division has been ranked and recommended: the commercial property and company commercial teams were recognised as “first class” with the employment team being described as “excellent and knowledgeable”.

As well as ranking teams overall, the Legal 500 also recommends individuals, based partly on feedback from their clients. All four employment law partners were recommended including Head of Employment Kuba Strycharczyk who is described as a “shrewd tactician”. Head of Planning Doug Claxton is recognised for his “incisive mind and a wonderfully understated manner.” Recently appointed Partner Caroline Redhead is “a lateral thinker and a problem solver”.

Within private client services, the firm’s medical law, personal injury and family teams are all ranked with Head of Family Simon Mortimer recognised for having “the right balance of experience and knowledge”

Managing Partner Tom Leach said, “In what has been a difficult year for the legal industry, it is ever more important to stand out from the crowd. This kind of recognition helps us to compete with national players and bring specialist work into Cumbria. When the Legal 500 recognises your expertise in a sector like education law, that is a compelling message to convey to the market.”

He continued, “Although the most recommended, Burnetts is not the only firm to be recognised in this year’s edition so we should really be celebrating the strength and depth of legal expertise in the County and use this as an opportunity to encourage Cumbria’s businesses to support their local experts rather than instructing solicitors elsewhere in the country.”

Law firms are recommended by the Legal 500 on merit alone.
