West Cumbrian law firm Burnetts is helping businesses prepare for the implementation of new legislation by hosting a morning seminar at Energus on the morning of 18th November.

On 1st December 2014, the new shared parental leave rules will come into force, allowing parents of babies born on or after 5th April 2015 to share the statutory maternity leave and pay that is currently available only to mothers.  In her seminar ‘Managing Working Parents’, employment law solicitor Joanne Stronach will help prepare business owners for the changes, as well as covering common problems like dealing with maternity leave and flexible working requests.

Speaking about the 90 minute seminar, host Joanne said, ”It’s extremely important that businesses are aware of how these changes will affect HR practices and that they have made plans to cope with the new regime, including how to manage when both parents work in the same business.  Although the changes will affect parents of babies born after 5th April 2015, the changes are so fundamental, businesses need to start thinking about how they are going to deal with any requests now so that they are prepared”.

The seminar is being held at Energus in Workington on Tuesday 18th November from 9.15am to 10.15am and costs £15 + VAT to attend.  To make a booking please contact Suzanne Thompson on 01900 510366, email events@burnetts.co.uk or visit www.burnetts.co.uk/events .  Spaces are limited, therefore booking is highly recommended.
