Legal Powers Extended in the NE
A Newcastle law firm is extending its legal powers in the North East.
Burnetts Solicitors which has offices in Carlisle, West Cumbria and Newcastle’s Quayside is moving to newly refurbished premises in Gosforth so that a full commercial team can be accommodated in the City.
The move will be celebrated with a drinks reception with a coast to coast theme on May 13th to be attended by around 100 of the firm’s partners, clients and supporters.
The firm opened its Quayside office in May 2009 as a base for clinical negligence partner Angela Curran. The volume of work has meant those premises have been quickly outgrown and given the firm the opportunity to find more spacious offices to accommodate a more comprehensive business law team.
Burnetts’ Newcastle team comprises nationally recognised experts with local connections including partners who were formally with Irwin Mitchell, Watson Burton and Eversheds. This commercial team has first-hand experience of working with the vibrant owner-managed businesses of the North East, as well as considerable experience in public sectors such as education.
The line-up of the Newcastle commercial team will be headed by Vaughan Jones, a former Eversheds Partner who lives in Gosforth and specialises in corporate and commercial work. He is a nationally-recognised expert in the education sector.
Vaughan said, “As well as further developing our niche specialism in clinical negligence, we will be bringing nationally-recognised commercial specialists with a regional focus back into the North East. For Newcastle businesses that means a high standard of service from experienced lawyers, but at affordable, regional rates.”
As well as Vaughan and Angela, Burnetts’ high-powered team includes another North East local, employment law specialist Joanne Stronach.
To promote its growing presence in the area, legal experts from Burnetts will be hosting a series of free monthly legal briefings. The Law @ Lunchtime sessions will take place from 12.30pm – 2.30pm with lunch provided at the Lansdowne Terrace office.
The programme of free sessions is:
15th June Freedom of Information Act
20th July Debt Recovery
21st Sept What makes a Dismissal Unfair
19th Oct Handling Grievances
16th Nov Legal requirements for websites and e-commerce
