Managing Change in West Cumbria

A Workington lawyer is hosting a breakfast briefing in Cockermouth next month to help West Cumbrian employers manage change whilst minimising the likelihood of costly Employment Tribunal claims.

Presented by Tracy Stainton, a commercial solicitor from Burnetts, Changing Contract Terms and Conditions will take place from 8.30am to 10.00am on 12th February 2013 at The Trout Hotel in Cockermouth.

The aim of the session is to ensure that business owners who have to impose workforce change avoid legal pitfalls. Issues commonly faced by West Cumbrian employers include the need to make changes to pay, holidays or shift patterns.

Tracy, who is based at Westlakes Science Park, said, “Regularly reviewing employees’ terms and conditions to ensure they are right for the business is something every employer should do: employment costs are a major overhead for most businesses so employees’ Terms and Conditions need to be flexible enough to enable the business to survive in a difficult market without preventing the business from attracting the best employees in a skills shortage.  Business owners who want to avoid Employment Tribunal Claims should take legal advice before making changes.”

Tracy continued, “I recognise that most West Cumbria businesses do not have specialist HR departments so I usually work with the business owner, providing clear practical support to guide them step by step through the change process. In this briefing, I will focus on the steps a business owner needs to take to facilitate change while staying within the law.”

Changing Contract Terms and Conditions costs £15 + VAT per delegate. A bacon sandwich and tea or coffee is included. There are limited places available and booking is essential. To reserve a place, contact Hannah Turner on 01946 550250, email events@burnetts.co.uk or book online at our events pages.
