Burnetts is one of just 22 firms in the UK to be recommended for its expertise in advising higher and further education institutions in the latest edition of Chambers and Partners, which is published this week.

Responsiveness, use of plain English and commitment were some of the reasons why lawyers at Burnetts were recommended by the prestigious guide to legal experts in the UK.

Within the North West region, nine Partners at the Cumbria law firm have also been recognised as being “Leading Individuals” in their specialist fields and five teams are ranked as Band One.

Managing Partner Nick Gutteridge is described as “highly regarded” for his expertise in advising clients with catastrophic injuries. He said, “Chambers and Partners is a meticulously researched and very well respected directory of legal services so it is an extremely reliable guide to the expertise of the region’s lawyers. Being recognised is much more than a matter of pride - it can open doors to retaining and attracting skilled and valuable work into Cumbria. It’s not unusual for a firm’s ranking in Chambers to be taken into account when bidding for new contracts.”

Head of the firm’s Business Services Vaughan Jones was valued for his “fantastic guidance and knowledge” while Head of Agriculture Richard Miller was recognised for his leadership of a team which “delivers everything on time”. Meanwhile, Head of Commercial Property Tony Lake was appreciated by clients because he “listens well to what we want to achieve and then offers his advice as to how to achieve that" and Head of Corporate Law John Noctor was praised for his ability to explain “complicated issues in a very straightforward way”. Senior Partner John Morris continues to be top ranked for his expertise both in education and employment law.

Within the private client team, the medical law solicitors received particular praise with all three Partners being recommended. Head of the team, Angela Curran was described as a “standout lawyer” and Vicki Jagger was recognised because “her degree of commitment is second to none".
