New home for Burnetts in Newcastle

Burnetts has re-located its North East operation to prestigious premises in the heart of Newcastle.

Burnetts has moved from Gosforth to Milburn House in Dean Street and is setting its sights on developing its commercial client base in the city.

The law firm first opened in Newcastle in 2009 when Head of Medical Negligence and Serious Injury Angela Curran joined the firm from Irwin Mitchell. Burnetts quickly outgrew its Quayside offices and moved to Gosforth in 2010. Six years later, the firm is taking up residence in Milburn House, a Grade II listed building in Newcastle city centre in order to make room for its continued growth.

Burnetts employs a team of commercial and private client lawyers in Newcastle including Partners Angela Curran and Vaughan Jones, as well as support staff. To date, the team’s focus has been on its medical negligence specialism: a nationally recognised expert in birth trauma injuries, Angela has secured multi-million pound damages for numerous North East children with disabilities caused by injuries at birth. The team has gone from strength to strength under Angela’s leadership, with five new recruits in the last twelve months.

In addition, the move to central Newcastle is part of a strategy to build on the success of the Medical Negligence and Serious Injury team and grow the firm’s base of commercial clients. Commercial property specialist Helen Roberts joined the team in 2016 from Hewitts to support Vaughan Jones in his drive to develop and deliver legal support to the business community.

Speaking about the re-location, Angela said, “We are very excited to be back in the city centre, especially as our new home is such a beautiful and striking building. We are delighted with the new offices and I know our clients will appreciate their accessible and central location. The firm’s Newcastle team has been steadily growing during our time in the North East, but our new base will be a great springboard for further expansion.”

As well as its Newcastle base, Burnetts has four offices in Cumbria including its head office in Carlisle. The firm has 15 partners and employs more than 100 staff.  For further information about Burnetts’ Newcastle team, visit http://www.burnetts.co.uk/newcastle.

Milburn House was designed by renowned Newcastle architects Oliver, Leeson and Wood and first opened in 1903. Burnetts took residence in the Edwardian office building on 14th March 2016.
