New team in Newcastle hits the ground running

Three recent recruits to Burnetts have created a new commercial property team based in the firm’s Newcastle office.

Led by Senior Associate Sarah Willshire (pictured above left), the North East team will work closely with colleagues in Carlisle and have access to a wide network of clients and bank lending panels through established Burnetts connections.

Sarah is a native of Newcastle who studied in Oxford before training as a solicitor back in the North East. She developed her commercial law and property lending expertise during more than ten years with Bond Dickinson in the city and now joins Burnetts from Watson Burton LLP.

“I’m looking forward to working with Richard Miller and the property team at Burnetts and being able to provide commercial property services to lenders, pension funds and businesses looking to buy, sell or lease properties,” she says.  “Burnetts has a strong reputation with commercial clients such as Santander, HSBC and InvestAcc, a major pension fund administrator, as well as other regional banks and building societies so there’s lots of scope to grow the business in the North East.”

Two other recent recruits, Rebecca Joy  (above right) and Jane Jubb (pictured centre), also bring significant commercial property law and lending experience.  In Jane’s case, this includes a perspective from inside a major lender from her time working in the Lloyds Bank Securities Centre in Newcastle before moving into legal practice.  Rebecca has lived and worked her entire career in Newcastle after completing her law degree in Durham and she is a specialist in property law with a particular focus on secured lending work.

The three all participate in sports in their spare time with a regular swimmer, a runner and an active golfer on the team.

“Rebecca and I have known each other since school and the three of us share experience from our previous roles,” says Sarah, “so we are very well established. There’s lots of potential for commercial property work in this region and the team has really hit the ground running.”
