Property Boom Creates Legal Jobs

As the construction industry continues to grow, Burnetts has added two new solicitors to its Commercial Property team, with the promise of two further jobs in the coming months.

As the construction industry continues to grow, Burnetts has added two new solicitors to its Commercial Property team, with the promise of two further jobs in the coming months.

Burnetts, which has offices in Penrith, Carlisle, Cockermouth and Newcastle has recruited a specialist in residential housing developments and provided a permanent position to a former trainee solicitor.

Tracy Ellison, 39, joins Burnetts from the national law firm Gateley in Birmingham. An experienced and specialist solicitor, Tracy has advised most of the UK’s major house-builders including Bellway, Miller Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes. At Burnetts she will be part of the team supporting the firm’s social housing clients in their purchase and development of land as well as advising education institutions and other commercial property clients.

Alistair Mason, 26, joined Burnetts in 2012 as a trainee solicitor after studying Law at Lancaster University and enjoying a short career as Legal Support Officer at both Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire County Council. He qualified in March 2014 and was offered a permanent role as a solicitor with the Commercial Property team.

Tony Lake, Head of Commercial Property at Burnetts and an expert in complex leases, said, “Despite the property slump, our team has remained extremely busy - we’re now looking forward to continued growth into 2014 and ideally would like to recruit at least two more lawyers. Nonetheless, our Commercial Property team is as strong as ever - no one else in Cumbria can give clients a 360 degree property law service which includes in-depth expertise in planning, acquisition, development, construction, leases and sales.”

Tracy lives in Penrith with her husband and two young boys. Alistair lives in Carlisle with his partner.

Burnetts’ Commercial Property team now includes seven qualified solicitors: Partners Tony Lake and Doug Claxton, Associate Solicitors Leigh Child, Tracy Ellison and Robbie Mather and Solicitors Helen Hayward (who joined the team in September 2013) and Alistair Mason. John Priddle retired in January 2014.
