Property Lawyers on the Move

Burnetts has re-located its property team to new offices at Rosehill in Carlisle.

Burnetts' property lawyers have joined the agricultural team next door to H&H on Montgomery Road on Rosehill Industrial Estate.

The move, which has been initiated by the firm’s new Head of Property Richard Miller, is part of a drive to improve efficiency and boost knowledge-sharing within the 13-strong team.

Richard said, “We are now working in a modern, open-plan setting which is much more conducive to team-working and sharing resources and expertise. The move has been very successful – there is a renewed dynamism and energy to the team.”

He continued, “There were previously four property teams working from different locations: commercial property; planning; agriculture and residential conveyancing. The service we are now offering to clients is much improved because the full range of land and property expertise and support is available under one roof. Rosehill is also a lot more accessible for clients, being so close to the M6.”

Burnetts’ commercial property team includes 13 lawyers, each with their own areas of expertise. Richard specialises in agriculture and renewable energy whilst co-Partner Tony Lake is an expert in complex leasehold arrangements, renewable energy options and specialist property transactions.

Associates also have their areas of specialism: Tracy Ellison is an expert in developments having worked with many of the UK’s biggest house-builders ; former Burberry lawyer Helen Hayward specialises in retail leases and Robbie Mather focuses on pension fund acquisitions and the tourism sector. Robbie’s new proximity to planning guru Doug Claxton is ensuring his developing specialism here too. Meanwhile, Diane Barnes is an agricultural lawyer with a specialism in mines and minerals.

The property team also includes agricultural solicitor Joanne McKenzie and five residential conveyancing lawyers.

Richard said, “We have a very strong property team now, but we are still growing. A new commercial property solicitor will be joining us in the summer and ideally I’d like to add at least two more to the team. Our new home has given us the scope to expand.”
