Following the inquest of Rebecca Rennie (23) in Carlisle on 29th November 2012, her family issued the following statement:

“As a family we have been totally devastated by Rebecca’s death as has her partner Nicky, his family, her friends, her boss and work colleagues.

Rebecca was a bright, caring and bubbly person who enjoyed life to the full. She enjoyed socialising with her friends, as well as spending time with her family and with her partner Nicky. She loved celebrating family events.

She was a very hard working woman and absolutely loved her job. She had worked for Denise Gosney for six years, first of all as a Beautician at Phake and then as her PA at Razzamataz Theatre School in Carlisle.

Rebecca was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and partner and is greatly missed by us all. Her younger brother is finding life difficult without his big sister and her Special Needs sister is unable to understand what has happened.

We feel extremely sad to lose Rebecca: she has left a big gap in all our lives. However, we all have many happy memories of a beautiful and much-loved person.”

Rebecca lived in Newcastleton with her parents Sheila & Peter Rennie, her brother Iain (16) and her sister Emma (20). Her partner Nicky Gardner lives in Longtown.

The family was represented at the inquest by Nick Gutteridge, a solicitor from law firm Burnetts.
