A specialist clinical negligence solicitor has joined the medical law team of one of the North’s leading law firms.

Jayne McCluskey will be based in the Carlisle office of Burnetts although she will be working with clients across the North of England.

A West Cumbrian by birth, Jayne attended Whitehaven School. She completed her solicitor training in Liverpool, qualifying in 1998. She then practised in London and South East England for fifteen years, most recently at Sternberg Reed where she was also an Associate.

Head of Medical Law Angela Curran said, “Jayne is a very experienced solicitor who has been advising clients with difficult medical law cases for many years. Her expertise has been recognised by several independent and well respected accreditation bodies. The medical law team at Burnetts is now the biggest team in the firm and with nine lawyers, eight of whom are solicitors, it’s a team which can easily compete with national firms in terms of our capability and skill. Jayne’s appointment reflects the growing complexity, volume and value of the work we do at Burnetts.”

Jayne is one of only two solicitors in Cumbria to be a member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme, the other being Burnetts’ Partner Vicki Jagger. She is also accredited by the charity Action Against Medical Accidents and in 2011, she was appointed a Senior Litigator by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Her experience has covered a wide range of cases: Jayne has advised clients on clinical negligence claims arising from delays in diagnosis and negligent treatment in all areas of medicine including obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology and ophthalmology.

As well as her litigation caseload, Jayne will be joining the Medical Law department’s specialist Inquest team, representing clients and their families at HM Coroner’s Courts in North West and North East England.
