Worldwide IP Day Helps Carlisle Creatives
Burnetts Solicitors and Freerange are co-hosting a free IP clinic on Thursday April 26th from 10am – 12pm at Freerange’s Carlyle Court venue to support creative businesses and to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day.
The protection of copyright, trademarks and designs is a concern for any business, but nowhere more so than in the creative and digital industries where designs and ideas are the very stock in trade.
In order to support innovative and creative businesses and to celebrate World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, Burnetts and Freerange are co-hosting a free IP clinic on Thursday April 26th from 10am – 12pm at Freerange’s Carlyle Court venue.
World IP Day is an initiative of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (an agency of the United Nations). One of the aims of World IP Day is to increase understanding of how protecting IP rights helps promote creativity and innovation.
The idea to hold an event in Carlisle came from Freerange Director, Hannah Stewart. She said, “Through discussions with our own resident businesses and comments from our Freerange Friday event. I know that the issue of protecting intellectual property, and the practicality of enforcing IP rights, are real areas of concern. When I found out about World IP Day, it seemed like a great opportunity to approach Burnetts and set up our own event.”
Vaughan Jones is a Partner at Burnetts and one of the firm’s IP experts. He said, “At some point, most creative businesses will have an IP-related issue, whether a client is concerned about rights protection and management; a website is using a photograph they have no rights to or programming code has appeared in a competitor’s software. IP is a fascinating area of law and I’m looking forward to meeting some interesting business people and finding out more about their creative work.”
World IP Day at Freerange is free to attend. As well as being a chance to discuss any IP issues such as copyright, trade marks or registered designs in a relaxed, informal manner with Vaughan, there will be free tea / coffee and cake provided.
To book a 15 minute appointment with Vaughan, email Hannah or Lindsay at Freerange on email@example.com or call 01228 401324.
