Emma is a Senior Associate in the Family team, based in Carlisle.
Emma advises on all aspects of family law including; the financial and property aspects of divorce; cases involving children; pre-nuptial/post-nuptial agreements and protection from domestic abuse. Emma has a particular interest in cases involving the family farm and family businesses. As part of her training, Emma spent time with the Corporate team and is therefore familiar with complex income and business structures.
Emma also acts for teachers and employees of the NHS in divorce and often deals with cases involving significant pension assets.
Emma has experience in dealing with a range of children matters including domestic and international relocation and parental alienation. Emma often conducts her own advocacy providing client’s with consistent representation.
A former pupil of Caldew School in Dalston, Emma studied at Newcastle University and then went on to achieve a distinction in her postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice at Northumbria University. She joined Burnetts as a trainee solicitor in September 2016 following a number of successful work experience placements within the firm and qualified as a solicitor in September 2018. She has worked exclusively in family ever since.
As part of a multi-service firm, Emma is able to draw on expertise from colleagues within other departments in order to provide client’s with the best possible advice.
Emma has been recognised in the Legal 500 over the last two years and in Chambers and Partners.
Outside of work Emma previously worked for the Northern Fells Group as a Youth Coordinator, organising activities for local young people, and continues to be involved in her local community. She currently sits as a Trustee for the Charity of William Hodgson.
Emma also owns her own flock of pedigree Beltex sheep, which she
enjoys taking to local agricultural shows and in her spare time can be found
assisting on the family farm.
