Melanie Milne is a HR Consultant at Burnetts. She joined in June 2018 and is based at the firm’s Penrith and Carlisle offices.

Melanie has hands-on experience of HR management in a range of industries, including travel and tourism and telecommunications. She also has over a decade’s experience in the Public Sector from her time in senior HR roles at South Cumbria Constabulary, the NHS and Cumbria County Council.

Experienced in the healthcare sector, Melanie spent four years in senior HR roles for the NHS and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust. During her time across Carlisle and Whitehaven hospitals, she looked after HR matters for surgical business units, involving child health and paediatrics, theatres, maternity and obstetrics, and day surgery. She supported the Trusts with a number of complex HR matters including a long-running employment tribunal case, a number of sickness absence cases and was heavily involved with the Care Quality Commission when the hospital was in special measures. Melanie also worked closely on a number of ‘Maintaining High Professional Standards’ cases advising the Trust’s Medical Director and Non-Executive Directors. In her role at Burnetts, she advises on a range of employment matters such as contracts, terms and conditions of employment, and redundancies and restructures. She is also skilled in more complex areas such as disciplinary hearings, managing sickness absence and employment tribunal cases.

Melanie graduated from University of Northumbria with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in HR. In 2002 she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. She is a Chartered Member of CIPD and is actively working towards fellowship.

Melanie lives in Carlisle but is well-travelled since her childhood. She was born in Glasgow but spent time in Lancaster, Hong Kong and Dubai growing up. Outside of work, her two children keep her on her toes but when she does get time to herself, she enjoys walking her dog Stanley, meeting with friends and spending time outdoors.
