Melanie is a Senior HR Consultant in the Employment and HR team, based in Carlisle, having joined the team in June 2018.
Melanie has hands-on experience of HR management roles in the private sector, but her main experience lies in senior HR roles across the public sector, including Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Constabulary and the NHS.
Melanie spent four years in senior HR roles for North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust. Working across Carlisle and Whitehaven hospitals, she advised on HR matters for surgical business units, involving child health and paediatrics, theatres, maternity and obstetrics and day surgery. She supported the Trust with a number of HR matters, including a consultant recruitment process, a long-running employment tribunal case and a number of complex and sensitive sickness absence cases. Melanie also worked closely on a number of 'Maintaining High Professional Standards' cases involving doctors and advising the Trust's Medical Director and Non-Executive Directors. In recent years, Melanie worked with her HR colleagues from Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust to resolve complex issues around medical staffing contracts of employment.
In her role at Burnetts, Melanie advises on a range of employment matters for education and commercial clients, such as contractual issues and conditions of employment and redundancies and restructuring. Melanie is also skilled in complex areas such as disciplinary investigations and hearings, managing sickness absence and employment tribunal cases.
Melanie graduated from University of Northumbria with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in HR. In 2002, she completed a post graduate diploma in Human Resource Management. She is a chartered member of CIPD.
Melanie lives in Carlisle, but is well-travelled since her childhood. She was born in Glasgow, but also lived in Hong Kong and Dubai whilst growing up. Outside of work, Melanie has two children who keep her on her toes, but when she does get time to herself, she enjoys travelling and holidays, going to the gym and walking her dog Stanley.
