Michael Walby is a Partner in Burnetts’ corporate law team. He studied at the University of Liverpool where he completed a Masters of Law and then completed an LPC at Nottingham Law School.
One of the leading corporate lawyers in the North West, Michael returned to Burnetts in 2013 following ten years at international law firm Pinsent Masons, where he gained a wide range of experience of corporate and commercial matters. Michael was appointed as a partner in 2014.

Experienced in all aspects of corporate law, Michael specialises in business acquisitions and sales. He has led many strategic and high-value transactions, including advising a leading supermarket group on acquisitions and joint ventures, and advising SIG PLC on several business acquisitions and disposals.
Michael consistently delivers transactions that exceed clients’ expectations, meets their timescales, and has established himself as a reliable adviser on business issues to several of the region’s largest companies, including H&H Group PLC, Lloyd Motors, Cumbria Waste Group and Lowe Clothing International. Michael is passionate about business and particularly enjoys acting as a sounding board to entrepreneurs, assisting them with business strategy as well as legal matters.

Michael is one of the most active corporate lawyers in the region. He is well connected in the business community in the north-West and beyond. Michael has strong relationships with banks, accountants and corporate finance advisers in the region.
Michael is a former pupil of Cockermouth School, a Trustee of Austin Friars and provides legal support to a local youth charity. He is married to Kate and has two children, Bella and Seb.
