Sophie is a Solicitor in the firm's HR & Employment team.
First-class honours law graduate Sophie Allinson is a Solicitor working exclusively in the HR & Employment team, she is based at Burnetts' Penrith office.
Sophie advises on all aspects of employment law for personal and corporate clients. This can involve drafting contracts of employment, guiding clients through grievance and disciplinary procedures and hearings, redundancy procedures, drafting and negotiating settlement agreements and providing merit assessments in respect of employment claims, as well as assisting in issuing and, defending claims in the Employment Tribunal. She also assists with delivery of training.
Additionally, Sophie undertakes work in the education sector in relation to employment law. This work can include assisting in restructures and redundancy exercises, changes to terms and conditions and TUPE transfers as well as drafting and negotiating settlement agreements and contracts of employment.
A former pupil of Ullswater Community College in Penrith, Sophie studied Law at the University of Cumbria, where she achieved her degree with First-class honours and received the Weightman’s Prize for University of Cumbria Student of the Year. Following her graduation, she studied at the University of Law in Leeds towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, where she achieved a distinction. She joined Burnetts as a trainee solicitor in September 2016, following a series of work placements with Burnetts throughout her studies and qualified as a solicitor in 2018.
Sophie grew up in Penrith and is a member of both the Penrith Angling Association and the Association of Lawyers for Animal Welfare. She is the current chair of the Cumbria Junior Lawyers Division.
Sophie maintains links with University of Cumbria, where she provides mentoring and gives talks to the students.
Outside of work, Sophie is interested in wildlife, photography, baking and music.
