Sophie is a Trainee Solicitor in the firm's HR & Employment team.
First-class honours law graduate Sophie Allinson joined Burnetts as a trainee solicitor in September 2016, following a series of work placements with Burnetts throughout her studies.
A former pupil of Ullswater Community College in Penrith, Sophie studied Law at the University of Cumbria, where she achieved her degree with First-class honours and received the Weightman’s Prize for University of Cumbria Student of the Year. Following her graduation, she studied at the University of Law in Leeds towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, where she achieved a distinction. Sophie will qualify as a solicitor in September 2018.
Sophie currently works within the HR & Employment team at Burnetts' Penrith office, where she advises on all aspects of employment law for personal and corporate clients, which involves: drafting contracts, guiding clients through grievance and disciplinary procedures, redundancy procedures, drafting and negotiating settlement agreements and more.
Additionally, Sophie undertakes work in the education sector in relation to employment law. This can include: assisting in restructures and redundancy excersises, changes to terms and conditions and TUPE transfers.
As part of her solicitor training, Sophie has also spent time in the Medical Negligence and Serious Injury team, carrying out legal research, drafting documents, attending court hearings and writing blogs for the website as well as in the Residential Conveyancing team, assisting with local property matters.
Sophie grew up in Penrith and is a member of both the Penrith Angling Association and the Association of Lawyers for Animal Welfare. She is the current chair of the Cumbria Junior Lawyers Division.
Sophie maintains links with University of Cumbria, where she provides mentoring and gives talks to the students.
Outside of work, Sophie is interested in wildlife, photography, baking and music.
