Tracy is Head of Burnetts' Cockermouth office.

Senior Associate Solicitor Tracy Stainton studied Politics at Durham University; completed her Legal Practise Course at Northumbria University and qualified as solicitor in 2005.
Before completing her solicitor training at Burnetts, Tracy worked as a civil servant, a Regional Trade Union Officer and for the Member of the European Parliament for Cumbria. She also served for a period of time as a county councillor. She lived in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle before returning to her native Cumbria.
Tracy re-joined Burnetts in 2012 to head up Burnetts’ Cockermouth office. Her background in business, employment and property law informs her role as a wills, trusts and estates specialist.
Tracy enjoys meeting clients and working with them to explore sensitive issues and find solutions. No two days are alike and her work involves:
- preparing wills including for farming and business clients;
- setting up will trusts, for example, for disabled children;
- creating property trusts; and preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney; and
- helping clients to sort out affairs following the death of a loved one: this work can include preparing returns to HMRC, obtaining Grant of Probate or administrating the whole estate on behalf of the Executors.
Tracy’s role also involves managing the firm’s Cockermouth office which has grown from two lawyers to a team of 14 providing a full range of business and private client services.
In her spare time Tracy and her husband enjoy music festivals, watching sport and walking in the Lakes with their Patterdale Terrier, Teddy.
