Tracy Stainton
Senior Associate
Tracy is a Senior Associate in the Wills, Trusts and Probate team, based in Cockermouth.
Tracy completed her solicitor training with Burnetts, qualifying in 2005. She specialised initially in Employment Law before moving into the Wills, Trusts and Probate team.
Before training as a Solicitor, Tracy worked as a Civil Servant, a Regional Trade Union Officer and for the Member of the European Parliament for Cumbria. She also served for a period of time as a county councillor. She has lived in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle before returning to her native Cumbria.
Tracy gained a broad knowledge of legal affairs as a Partner in a local firm before re-joining Burnetts in 2012 to head up Burnetts’ Cockermouth office. Tracy’s background in business, employment and property law informs her role as a Wills, Trusts and Estates specialist.
Tracy enjoys meeting clients and working with them to explore sensitive issues and find solutions. No two days are alike and her work involves preparing Wills for clients; setting up Will Trusts, for example, for disabled children; drafting Wills for business and farming clients; helping clients put their house into a property trust; preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney or helping people sort out affairs following the death of a loved one: this work can include preparing returns to HMRC and obtaining Grant of Probate through to administrating the whole estate on behalf of the Executors.
Tracy’s role also involves managing the firm’s Cockermouth office which has grown from two to nineteen staff. The team at Cockermouth provide a full range of business and private client services for clients across the West of Cumbria.
Outside of work, Tracy and her husband Alan enjoy music festivals, watching sport and walking in the Lakes with their Patterdale Terrier, Teddy.
