Legal Secretary – Corporate & Commercial Property

Location: Newcastle

We are looking to recruit a full time Legal Secretary to support both our Corporate team and Commercial Property team, based at our Newcastle office.

Who are we looking for?

An experienced secretary with strong organisational and administrative skills to support both departments with specific legal tasks to include (but not limited to):

Corporate Tasks

  • Typing transactional documents.
  • Lawyer management/diary management and control
  • Assisting with proactive billing – sending WIP lists and reminders.
  • New file/client ID/opening files/risk assessment/ conflict checks/engagement letters.
  • Familiarity with Companies House including searches and filings.
  • Transaction compliance and administration:
    • Stamp duty submissions and payments.
    • Preparation of completion bibles and diarising and monitoring key deal dates.
    • Data rooms – set up, management and administration.

Commercial Property Tasks

  • Typing transactional documents.
  • Lawyer management/diary management and control
  • Assisting with proactive billing – sending WIP lists and reminders.
  • New file/client ID/opening files/risk assessment/ conflict checks/engagement letters.
  • Land Registry – drafting of applications/forms, submitting applications and dealing with requisitions with supervision/support.
  • Registration of charges at Companies House.
  • Drafting and submitting SDLT returns.
  • Post completion – sending documents to the other side, checking Land Registry titles once completed, sending documents to client’s and banks.

The successful candidate will have a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude to enable them to work closely with the team of legal fee earners on all aspects of this work. The ability to work as part of a team is therefore essential together with excellent communication, and IT skills.
