Burnetts celebrates Childhood Day in aid of the NSPCC…

On 11th June 2021 our offices across Cumbria and Newcastle celebrated Childhood day. Childhood day is a nationwide event organised by the NSPCC, a charity which offers support and essential services to children who have been victims of abuse. The NSPCC were chosen by staff and partners to be our charity of the year so we welcomed the opportunity to get involved.

We organised a few different events for Childhood day designed to get everyone taking part and raising money. During lunch time we ran an “ice cream, pizza and games” event where Burnetts staff and local businesses from the estate came together to play games such as Jenga and Connect Four and eat home cooked pizza. We also had the wonderful Temon Farm Milk Barn selling their fabulous home-made ice cream and waffles.

Later on, in the afternoon we organised a Burnetts Sports day, with our employees competing in teams in events like welly throw, sack race, bean bag relay race and sprint. Our other offices across Cumbria and Newcastle competed in a rounder’s tournament. We are so pleased with how the day turned out and we are proud that the NSPCC chose to include us in their national film to promote Childhood day for 2022.

After what has been a challenging year for many, Childhood Day has been a welcome bit of fun for the staff who could join in at home or outside our office, and we are delighted to have raised money for children here in Cumbria.

We are acutely aware that fundraising events have been difficult in the Pandemic, so we are thrilled that we have been able to safely raise money for the NSPCC today following all the Government guidelines “

Sandra Jones, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Cumbria, said the donation from Burnetts staff was hugely welcome. Sandra said: “Play helps build confidence, creativity and emotional resilience, and even as adults, taking part in play and games can help to improve our mental and emotional wellbeing, so it’s great to see everyone at Burnetts engaging with their inner children to help raise awareness of Childhood Day.”

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, Childline volunteers at our bases across the UK have delivered more than 73,000 counselling sessions on mental and emotional wellbeing concerns alone, to children from across the country, and every £4 raised by everyone at Burnetts could help answer one of those calls.”
